Boyhan welcomes Age Friendly Initiative

Independent Senator, Victor Boyhan, has today (Thursday) welcomed the announcement of an Age Friendly Strategy for 2016 - 2020 by Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council.

“I welcome the objectives of the strategy. Local councillors and the executive are committed to reducing the negative effects of loneliness and isolation experienced by older people, living within the county.

“An age-friendly community enables people of all ages to actively participate in local activities. I commend the DLR Chief Executive Ms Philomena Poole who was instrumental in delivering this initiative.

“I have no doubt that this initiative will potentially reduce or minimise loneliness and isolation experienced by older people in our communities.

“The Council is currently seeking applications from local community groups and organisations for Age Friendly initiatives or actions which can be delivered during 2016.

“Submissions should be made in writing to Mr. Pat Coffey, Social Inclusion Officer & Age Friendly Programme Coordinator, DLR County Hall, Marine Road Dún Laoghaire. The closing date for the receipt of applications is Friday 10 June 2016.”
